Do you want your child to have a thorough knowledge of each and every state in America? Or do you just want a handy reference guide of the United States added to your library? This book answers both questions. It goes through each state alphabetically and packs 6 pages of information on each state. Each state has a section called At A Glance. This little section just gives you the quick facts like the meaning of its name, its nickname, its capital, population, size, population, where it is on the map, etc. Then there will be a section called The Place which tells about the geography of the state. Then it has a section called The Past which tells the history of the state. There is also a little section (one of my favorites) called Facts and Firsts. This section tells you little interesting facts and firsts the state has. Then it has a section called The Present. This section tells you where this state stands in America's economy today, what popular tourist attractions are there, etc. There is another section which gives you a few names of famous people who were born in the state. All of this is packed within 6 pages for each state. Of course there are also colorful graphs, maps and pictures to make it interesting. In the beginning of the book there are a few pages that are really fun references. There are about 20 Top Ten things. So there will be a Top Ten Smallest States in the US. This will have a map with highlighted states with the state's name and the fact that makes them one of the top smallest. There are 20 of these comparisons in the beginning of this book. This book will make US geography interesting for your children and will be a great addition to your home library.

We took this book with us when we traveled across the US, the kids LOVED it!!

It started by me asking the kids questions and them using the reference book to find the answer. It wasn't long before they were the ones asking the questions because they were reading ahead about each state as we were driving.

We have a lot books and this is by far one of the best and it is definitely the best reference book!

This book is the best! I am 12 years old and I kind of like Geography. Though just finding the population, and those boring facts from the internet does not catch my interest. But my mom got this book from the library, and I jut read it for hours in one afternoon. It has fascinating maps and graphs. It holds so much fun and interesting information. At the beginning of the book it shows the top ten states in population, least population, size, least size, most traffic, most bridges, biggest airports, highest tempuratures, lowest tempuratures, wettist, driest, and most visited. For each state it has 6 pages packed with facts, information, history, maps, graphs, and great pictures.

I will give you an example with Illinois. First, on the first page it shows little facts such as population, what the name means, what it's nickname is, it's size, it's capital, when it became a state, and its state emblems. They call this "At a Glance" Now this will not always catch a readers attention, so if you want to look more into it, you can read the next pages. This article also inclueds a small map of the united states showin which states are considered west, midwest, south, and north. Illinois is midwest. The next article is called "The Place" where it tells what kind of habitat Illinois is, and what natural events happen there. One graph that I really like that they show in this article is a graph showing the largest 5 cities. For Illinois, the largest is Chicago, and I can compare how large it is to the others. It is waaaaaaay larger then the others.

The next article is called "The Past" this shows the state's history. In this section, the part that I like is the "Facts and First." Where it gives about five interesting facts and firsts that happened in Illinois. Such as the Chicago Public library holds more then 2 million books, which makes it to be the largest public library in the world! The next article is "The Present" which shows what is happening right now to the state. This also shows which famous people were born in this state.

I highly recommend this book. And I hope to buy this book my self some time.
